They want to recruit peer mentors, who have themselves experienced homelessness, to compliment the work of the Homeless Prevention and Engagement Service (HoPES) support team. HoPES, operating in Worcestershire, supports adults who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, including those with mental health issues.
The successful volunteer will provide on-going low level support to ensure the client is able to sustain their tenancy and maintain their independence following intervention from HoPES. (Advice and support given by HoPES could have covered tenancy issues, budgeting & benefit take-up, training & employment and also social & community inclusion.)
Mentors would be required to:
- Provide befriending support and home visits with a view to gradually stepping-down the prevention support needed to sustain a client’s home.
- Work with clients to achieve goals as identified in their individual support and development plan.
What are they looking for?
Working hours are flexible depending on your availability; however the minimum commitment is 3 hours per week. Volunteer expenses will be reimbursed.
When: Mornings/Afternoons, Mon-Fri
