Advice Centre Assessor  with CCP (Ref: 122)
Opportunity picture
Cheltenham First Stop is a bustling advice and help centre at the heart of Cheltenham that members of the public with a range of needs can drop in for support, advice and guidance.

With several services and organisations operating out of the space, it is vital that somebody seeking support is signposted to the right service so that they can receive the support they need.

We are recruiting volunteers to staff the reception area as part of a new Reception Plus team, to greet service users and to assess what support they need so they can access the relevant service. Wherever possible, they will also try to meet the individual’s needs themselves, which may include helping them fill in forms or access information. There may also be some light administration duties, including completing/filing paperwork and answering the telephone.

This is a chance to become part of a growing team dedicated to alleviating the impact of homelessness, housing related issues, family breakdown and financial crisis. It is an ideal opportunity for somebody who wants to support vulnerable people, or for those who are interested in acquiring or developing their own skills and expertise in the social care sector.
What are they looking for?

For this role you will need a good telephone manner and people skills, be friendly but with the ability to cope under difficult circumstances, previous admin experience, a good basic level of maths skills for adding up statistics and the ability to take initiative when needed

We will provide intensive and accredited induction training to all members of the Reception Plus team, so little or no prior knowledge of Cheltenham First Stop is required. However, we are looking for volunteers with the following qualities:

• Non-judgmental approach to service users with various needs, including homelessness, drug and alcohol misuse and mental health issues
• Resilience to operate within a fast-paced environment with service users with challenging needs
• An empathetic and patient approach
• Reliability and commitment
• Willingness to work within CCP Safeguarding procedures at all times, including undergoing a Disclosure and Barring Service check
• Knowledge of current welfare and housing policy as well as local services would be beneficial

This role is in a busy and sometimes chaotic environment
