Love writing and Social Media? The Family Haven needs what you have!

The Family Haven needs a volunteer to oversee their social media presence to help promote our activities on Facebook and Twitter. This would involve a fairly regular commitment, posting at least once a week.

This role would involve:
• Keeping the charity’s social media channels updated – currently Facebook and Twitter
• Planning and scheduling social media content and posts
• Re-Researching, creating and uploading relevant contents e.g. graphics, videos, photos, audio, albums
• Identifying key influencers and organisations to interact with on social media
• Attending some of the charity’s events with a view to reporting on them
• Liaising with staff and other volunteers to ensure consistency in messaging.

Using social media has become a great way to reach a new audience and engage potential supporters. As Social Media Administrator, the volunteer would ensure that The Family Haven is making full use of online social media and to maximum benefit.

The tasks can be completed from anywhere but working from the office for at least some of the time would be an advantage. Hours and times are very flexible.
What are they looking for?

The volunteer will need to be able to come to the Family Centre on a regular basis, seeking inspiration for material to post online.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop skills and get involved with your local community.
The successful applicant will gain experience of managing a social media community and the opportunity to find out more about how a charity such as The Family Haven operates. The applicant will need to have experience of using social media, preferably for a business or organisation, as well as have excellent communications skills and excellent written English.

- Social media knowledge of Facebook and Twitter will be necessary.
- Photography skills will also be an advantage.
- Own internet access necessary.

This post will require coming into the day centre regularly. Our opening times are Monday 10:00am - 1:00pm, Tuesday to Friday 10:00am - 3:30pm


The successful volunteer will receive a full induction, and be given any necessary supplementary training as required.

This role is flexible and you can give as time much as you want and are able to give.

The Family Haven is a small local charity, established in 1988 to help disadvantaged and vulnerable families in Gloucestershire to a brighter future. The charity provides a warm, caring and supportive day centre, where assistance and encouragement are available to help them to improve the quality of their lives.

The charity is based in Spa Road, Gloucester, and provides practical help and support to deprived, disadvantaged and vulnerable families with pre-school children. It predominantly helps families living in B&B or unsuitable accommodation, those with mental health issues, victims of domestic abuse and pre-school children with special needs. Many of the families supported experience social isolation and feel excluded from the community. The charity positively engages with these families through a programme of activities, to help them feel valued and included, in turn improving their sense of self-worth.
