Youthwork Volunteer with The Door  with The Door (Youth Project) (VG) (Ref: 1621)

Opportunity picture
The Door provides a drop-in service where young people can take part in recreational activities, find support and advice about various issues such as benefits, housing, mental health issues, the youth justice system, education and unemployment, drugs and alcohol, pretty much anything they may be worried about.
Could you help support the existing staff and engage with the young people requiring such assistance?
What are they looking for?

Could you develop positive, supportive relationships and provide a listening ear to the young people using The Door's drop-in services? An understanding of the issues young people face today would be useful plus any relevant experience in bringing the best out of people and helping to build up young people's confidence, especially where they may have had problems in the past.

Having a positive attitude and offering encouragement while being non-judgmental are essential criteria for this role.
You would need good communication skills with a heap of patience, the ability to observe, listen and safeguard the welfare of young people.
If that sounds like you, The Door would love to hear from you.

About The Door (Youth Project) (VG)

The Door (Youth Project) (VG) logo
The Door is a Christian charity, based in Stroud that was established in 1991 providing support to young people aged 11 to 25 and their families.

Hosting youth clubs across the Stroud District in Stroud, Dursley, Cam, Cashes Green, Wotton-Under-Edge, North Nibley and Avening, they also offer intensive support for young people and their families, on a 1:1 or group basis and in local schools.

There are numerous opportunities to volunteer at The Door as Youth Workers, Mentors for Young People or Parents, or general fundraising activities such as street collections or the thriving charity shop.

Due to the continued demand for our mentoring service, The Door is very keen to hear from people interested in supporting a young person or parent as a mentor. Full training is provided for the opportunity to join a great community of volunteers.
