Kitchen Assistant and Tea/Coffee maker - St Lukes, Cheltenham  with Cheltenham Senior Citizens Welfare Committee (Ref: 490)

Opportunity picture
Would you like to help out at a Lunch Club? Can you make a good cuppa? Could you help with the preparation work of peeling and chopping for someone to cook a simple, hearty and tasty home cooked meal for about 12 people? Can you help clear tables and load a dishwasher?

When elderly people live on their own they may not always eat well, and so thoroughly enjoy their trips out for a proper nutritious meal with a friendly group of people.

The people who use this service perhaps do not see anyone until they come to the centre once a week and so the help you can provide is invaluable.

It is hoped to build up a small, friendly team of volunteers who can all work together:
- making and serving a welcome cup of tea
- peeling and chopping to help prepare and cook a simple meat and 2 veg kind of meal for about 12 persons
- serve it to the Lunch Club attendees (and enjoy the meal yourself too)
- fill up the dishwasher and tidy the kitchen

There is a fully equipped kitchen to make the work easier with water boiler, large gas/electric range cooker, microwave, food mixer and dishwasher.
What are they looking for?

A willingness to volunteer in the first place and then turn up regularly is the most important thing. Hygiene awareness is paramount.
