There are unpaid carers throughout the county who are lonely, isolated and struggling but who could be receiving support, including counselling, benefits and training. Your role would be to raise the profile of Carers Gloucestershire in GP surgeries so that those who are caring for loved ones get help when they desperately need it.
You will meet with a contact at one or two GP surgeries every 6-8 weeks with materials including up to date leaflets and the Carers Gloucestershire magazine. You will work with the surgeries so that carers are identified and referred.
This opportunity may include going to flu clinics and manning displays.
Volunteering times are flexible. Each visit takes about 30 minutes and is at a time that is convenient for the visitor and the GP surgeries. There are available surgeries all around the county, including Stroud, Cheltenham, Gloucester and Tewkesbury
To do this role you would need to have good levels of confidence and interpersonal skills to engage appropriately with practice personnel.
As one of our volunteers has said “In my early days of caring when I felt isolated and exhausted I often wondered how long I would cope for then I found Carers Gloucestershire and my inner strength got stronger by the day.” This is the difference you could be making.
