Relate Gloucestershire and Swindon provides counselling for couples, individuals, families, children and young people and also provides sex therapy.

New Trustees are needed to join the existing board to help the organisation to further develop. The board are collectively responsible for directing the charity so that it can operate within the terms of its charitable objectives and remains solvent.

The board of Trustees meet 6-7 times per year where they discuss and approve the budget, business plan and strategic service development aims. The board monitor progress of the organisation's activities and are provided with reports from the services. The board advise and support the management team leaving the managers to run the company.

The current board is looking for people with skills or experience in the following areas to add to the team; legal skills, people who work or have worked in social services, people who work or have worked in the medical professions and people who are or have been counsellors.

DBS checks are carried out, however having a criminal record will not necessarily bar you from volunteering.

Volunteers from all age groups are welcomed, however the minimum age for this role is 18.
What are they looking for?

A background in business, charitable or public sector and good links to your local community would all be helpful.

Trustees must have good communication skills and be able to work as part of a team. New Trustees will meet with the existing board, management and staff team and attend team meetings to get to know the organisation.


Initial meetings with potential Trustees would take place at Clarence Parade. This is in the centre of Cheltenham, very close to the bus and coach station in Royal Well. Meetings take place at Gloucestershire College on Princess Elizabeth Way.

Meetings usually take place on a Wednesday evening, but other informal meetings take place during the working day.

Wheelchair accessible, at the college only where most meetings will be held.
